We would like to take the train to get from the Cinque Terre area in Italy to Nice, France. I have found itineraries on Trenitalia. Has anyone done this trip? If so, do you recommend Trenitalia or SNCF? Thanks in Advance!
I'm pretty sure it's not really a matter of one or the other. At best, the two rail companies share equipment on this route, at least from Genoa to Nice, so you really can't choose between one or the other.
Trenitalia is in Italy. SNCF is in France. I've taken trains leaving from Monterosso to Genoa, Genoa to Ventimiglia, Ventimiglia to Nice (SNCF). Trains run frequently between these cities. Some will go from Genoa to Nice without a change in Ventimiglia.
Swan...I think she was asking whether you had a choice of taking an SNCF or a Trenitalia train. I don't believe you get such a choice...isn't it generally a tossup, depending on whose turn it is to run the service?
Thanks Norm and Swan. I guess I wanted verification that the trip was possible before booking our airline tickets. I have used both Trenitalia and SNCF before and really don't have a preference, just curious is one did the trip more quickly, etc.
Thanks again!
