I'm trying to figure out the fastest route to get us from Genoa to Interlaken. I figured it would be fastest to go from Genoa to Milan and then up to Interlaken. For some reason the train time tables (on http://bahn.hafas.de/bin/query.exe/en - the website in Rick Steves' book) are showing that the trip from Genoa to Milan (supposed to be around 2 hours long) is 19 hours, and then from Milan to Interlaken it's 11 or 12 depending on the time. I was looking at days in mid June, and so far all the other legs on my trip are looking as they should time-wise. Does anyone know why these extraordinarily LONG travel times are showing up so a route that is supposed to be not as long?
Your better off using the Swiss Rail website: www.sbb.ch
It's a five hour journey with changes in Milan and Spiez.
New European timetables come out twice a year: early June and early December. The bahn.de timetables will work just fine if you do a search by entering a date between now and June 1. The new timetables are not likely to change by more than a few minutes, if at all.
The trip from Genoa to Interlaken will take between 5.0hrs and 7.0hrs depending on which trains you are on. You will change trains not only in Milan but Brig and most likely Spiez as well.
