Cinque Terre: Air Conditioning or Not??

Can anyone please advise how the experience is in Mid-June staying at the Hotel Gianni Franzi as far as room temperature comforts are? We are healthy adults who don't mind sweating but would like to avoid "hot & stuffy" if possible. We're planning on a week stay. Thanks!

Depends on where the room is. We were in Vernazza a week in March of 2001 and it was hot.

I rented an apartment with windows facing another building. No circulation of air, but we had a portable fan.

In June you will definitely sweat.
If you get a room facing the ocean you should have breezes. June temperatures are hard to predict.

The owners expect you to inspect the room before you rent it; so be sure you do.

I looked at 5 apartments before I chose one. Each one was different and the rental fees vary.

LOL, LOL :) Air-conditioning, like elevators, are not that common in the CT. You can find it but you'll have to look for it.

So, here is a place in Vernazza that is air-conditioned. It is not on the water, but is nice... Toninno Basso's rooms at the top of the town. They are very clean, modern, air-conditioned, there is a computer in each room for your use, and apples for you to eat.His rooms fill up very fast, but we stayed there in 2007 in May for 9 days and we loved it. He is a very nice guy.

We stayed at Gianni Franzi in mid June and it was very hot during the day but okay at night--not super cool but okay. Now, we were on the top floor so I'm sure that made it hotter. They told us there would be a fan but there wasn't. When we asked about it they brought a small fan that was so filthy that when we turned it on it blew out junk all over the room. We had to take it apart to clean it.

All that way VERY worth it to sit on their wonderful little terrace overlooking the sea. We sat there for hours.

Just be ready to walk up a lot of stairs. It was a little over 100 steps to get up to our room. You didn't just run back to your room for something! The teenage boys could be making a killing hauling luggage but none were around.

We always ask for a cool room wherever we go in Europe and owners always tries to accomodate. A/c is rare in CT, why not buy a cheap fan when you get to Italy?

Thanks for all the responses. We've found what we are looking for and are looking forward to the "cool" experience. That is what traveling is all about after all -- isn't it? Independently doing what you desire to do in unique settings?
