Christmas Travel to Europe

Hi all. I know no one has a crystal ball, but I was wondering if you could tell me from past experience when is the best time to book for December. I've never traveled to Europe over the holidays, but in the place of presents this year, we want to go to the Christmas Markets. I'm finding fares for $965 (including all taxes, fees, etc.) to fly from Houston to Paris and then Munich to Houston. I've searched regular airline sites and consolidators. Any thoughts on getting the best price or when to pounce on a deal is appreciated.

Actually fares tend to be higher over the Christmas period than earlier in the year. Sort of a min peak. I think anything under a $1000 is a good price. You can wait but it may not get any cheaper.

It's a crapshoot but if it was me - I'd take it. I passed up a fare last summer in the high $800 range. I waited until September thinking I'd find a better fare and ended up paying almost $1200. And fares are up this year about 10%. Another thing - I flew over on 12/17. If I could have flown a day or two earlier I'd have saved almost $200.

I was thinking of waiting to see what the fare sales look like in September, but since it is for travel during a peak time, I'm guessing the fares won't apply. Has anyone else waited for the fare sales and what was your experience with it being higher or lower?
I know people must think I'm crazy planning this far out.
