Rick mentions the guided walking tours available on Christmas Day in London -they sound lovely but the problem is if there is no transportation that day (buses, tube etc) how in the world are we supposed to get to the meeting place in Trafalgar Square from our B&B in Victoria!? That is assuming taxis will not be available or few and far between(as I have heard)...nice idea but need some help on the execution of it. Also wondering on getting to St.Pancras to catch the Eurostar to Paris on the morning of the 26th. Suggestions would be much appreciated for both of these.
I know you probably don't want to walk to get to a walking tour, but Trafalgar Square is quite walkable from the Victoria neighborhood. You'd be passing Buckingham Palace, and a walk down The Mall, which ends in the roundabout at Trafalgar Square, is quite pleasant.
FYI on certain days there is a fairly substatntial surcharge 3L? add on all Taxi fares ps there always is the ceremony of the keys for things to do .
It is only about a mile or so from Victoria Station to Trafalgar Square. The website www.walkit.com is a good resource for walking routes in London.
Many cabbies work that day, and LOVE to have preserved fares. Call your B&B and ask them to arrange cabs for both days.
It can be pretty dang cold (and/or wet) In December in London, a mile walk before the waking tour might be a bit much!
The Underground should be running on Boxing Day. The quickest way is to take the Victoria Line from Victoria to King's Cross St Pancras.
Thank you to everyone for all the helpful replies, I think I have a fair idea of how to execute the walk and am my mind is more at ease knowing I will be able to get the St Pancras for the train! Any tips on Christmas Eve or Day Dining? Maybe I should post a new thread for that...
