Chicago to London via Dublin - How much time?

Hello Everyone,

Planning the first international trip with my wife and son (who will be almost 2 at the time of travel) to London and then a few other places around Europe. We're planning to fly in from the USA with a layover in Dublin. It looks like there are two options, a 1 hour layover or a 3 hour layover. Does anyone know if the 1 hour is enough time to transfer? Also, since Brexit, do we go through any kind of immigration in Dublin or is it all handled in the UK?

Thank you!

Ireland has been independent of the UK for about 100 years, so Brexit is nonissue. If I recall correctly, we went directly to terminal for flights to Schengen countries without any formalities. We had a 1 1/2 hour layover in Dublin and time to grab a cup of coffee before the boarding process began.

Is your destination Rome, as the title says, or London, as your text implies?

Either way, I'd rather have three hours than one for this transfer, a little margin in case your first flight is delayed.

Ah sorry! I was planning a work trip to Rome and a family trip to London at the same time. This trip is Chicago to London via Dublin.

The longer layover flight would be two hours after the shorter layover, so it'd be a backup. But counting on 3 open seats for them to get us on, should we miss the 1 hour window, might be a bit much. I think we're going for the 3 hour layover.

You will go through immigration in Dublin as you enter the Common Travel Area. There will be no immigration in London.

Since you have gotten different responses......let me reiterate what "Ramblin" wrote:

You will go through immigration in Ireland. When you get off the plane in London you will just go on your way like a domestic flight.
