We visited Paris 2 weeks ago and brought back quite alot of gifts including copper pots and pans. We boxed everything up, checked them as an additional piece of luggage and paid the $50 fee, and saw them safe and sound back in Indianapolis! Next time we're doing this again and stocking up on Pate and cheese! Cheapest way to ship back gifts/supplies!
I always bring one of those small packable duffel bags for just this reason. I put my dirty clothes in the duffel and the gifts in the roll aboard suitcase so that they are better protected. Since I tend to go to one country I save my gift buying until the end of the trip. Pam
Indeed! Even if you don't bring an empty suitcase, you can still have your purchases boxed at a shipping store and then check it as luggage on your flight home. The downside is carrying around all your items until you leave. But shipping such items home can be well over $200.
Before you buy that pate and cheese to bring home be sure that it qualifies for import into the country. It would be tragic to have it ceased at US Customs. https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/82/~/travelers-bringing-food-into-the-u.s.-for-personal-use
