Hi! I'm flying from Catania to Rome and then staying in Rome for 3 days and flying from Rome to JFK. I modified an existing ticket and paid the fare difference to be able to stay in Rome for a few days instead of flying directly to JFK on the same day. How do I make sure that my checked bag is at the Rome airport for me to pick up and doesn't get sent through to JFK?

When you check your bag, make sure the agent tags it for FCO. Remind them when showing your ticket that you have an extended stay in Rome.

Just a head’s up that eruptions of Mt Etna can close airspace at Catania at times. It is currently erupting. How far out is your trip? Hopefully everything works out well for you but you might want to do a little contingency planning just in case.
