I have to go to an event that is about 2-3 hours from each of those airports, and so I'm wondering what my best bet is in terms of cheapest?
From where?
Sorry! From Washington, DC. I've checked prices, and everything looks pretty even...but I wasn't sure if there was a "known" better place to fly in/out of.
Frankfurt you can probably get a direct flight from DC.
Please: Where exactly is the event taking place? There are so many mountains in between those cities that even though it might look close to an airport that airport might just not be easily accessible... Also: How can a place be 2 hours from FRA, 2 hours from NUE and 2 hours from PRG at the same time? Germany and Central Europe only work in 3 dimensions... ;-)
Sorry. Clearly I was estimating. The event is in Erfurt, but we will be going to Prague during some part of the trip. My assumption is that Prague or Frankfurt are our best options for flying.
As regards to time and distance, your estimation was not too far off. The Frankfurt-Erfurt connection is just under 2 1/2 hours direct. Since you're flying out of DC, have you checked about flights going to Berlin?? Like Frankfurt, Berlin-Erfurt is just over a couple of hrs. My guess would be going into Frankfurt from DC would be cheaper...but it's only an educated guess.
I would think flying direct from DC into Frankfurt is going to be the cheapest. No need to fly down to Miami (who would add this much time onto their travel?) or NYC. What a waste of time. That would have to be some kind of super special deal for someone to go that much out of their way when DC has enough flights of its own into Germany.
Lufthansa offer flights to Erfurt via Munich. You can search for them under Lufthansa oder United Airlines flight designators... Also airberlin.com fly directly to Erfurt from some few cities. Other than that search for cheap flights to Frankfurt or Berlin. Rail connection between those and Erfurt is very good. Prague is not very accessible from Erfurt (you'd have to go via Dresden or Nuremberg first)
