Cheapest way to Rome & London f/ Paris

I'm going to Paris and would like to do a day trip to Rome and a two day trip to London. What is the cheapest way to get to these cities? Is a day trip to Rome possible or would we have to do a 2 day trip?

IF this is a serious question, then you have no clue as to geography. Look at a map. Rome is a long way from Paris. Cheapest way to Rome would be via one of the discount airlines. But a day trip is complete out of the question. A two day would be possible but expensive for the amount of time on the ground. You need to do some serious homework on your own.

I'm not an idiot. No surprise sherlock they're not next to each other, but compared to major cities in US, Paris and Rome are not that far from each other.

While this answer isn't sufficient, if you wanted to post something this would have been enough. If you wanted to be useful you could have said which airline has the best deals for their service, best times, etc?

"You need to do some serious homework on your own."

Hey Frank, newsflash: this message board is for tips and advice. Bored at work? Home sucks? What's up? Get a life. I have one so don't waste my time posting useless B.S. and wasting my email space.

"compared to major cities in US, Paris and Rome are not that far from each other."

I once flew from Pittsburgh to Boston and back in a day for a meeting, but I sure wouldn't recommend doing that for the fun of it. And that was 500 mi. each way, not 700.

What else are you doing while you are there - perhaps a day trip to Barcelona and another one to Berlin.

That's a two hour flight. Most experience people here say that you need to add 3 hrs or more for getting to the airport, checking in, security, boarding, getting off, finding ground transportation. So you are going to spend 10-12 hours traveling. Cosidering airlines don't fly all night, you might just have time to get to Rome, check it off your list, then head back to Paris.

yikes, annie over the top

I guess what sometimes bothers me is that there are often valid questions that people post and some peoples responses are a bit off putting.

Frank, that ain't no "lady"! You'll have to show me the PM at our next meeting. I hope you also forwarded it to the webmaster.

I can't say I "value" Frank's advice (at least most of it) because it is mostly about Italy, where I never want to be. However, I do "respect" his advice, very much. I happen to know Frank, and he has made many, many trips to Italy, is very knowledgeable about it, and tries to be helpful to those who really want it.

And, bluedenim, your post says you have made 198 others. How come I don't remember any of them? Oh, I guess I just ignore you, like most here do.

Annie....you'd be surprised at the number of people who, early in their trip planning, don't know European geography or the distances that can be involved. Please don't assume we can read minds. And yes, this is for "tips and advice," but providing you with information on "which airline has the best deals for their service, best times, etc" goes a little beyond that. Those are all tradeoffs you'll have to decide yourself, after doing some research. After all, some people will put up with many inconveniences to save money.....others will simply shell out the cash. The balance you choose to strike is not for us to decide.
As Lee noted, doing Rome as a day trip from Paris just isn't on...it'd be like doing Chicago from Dallas....you'd be lucky to have a couple of hours actually touring the sights. Two days is much more feasible. Discount airlines Vueling and Easyjet fly that route daily. If you book far enough in advance, you should be able to get cheap fares out of Paris early in the morning, then back from Rome late the next night. Be aware of all their luggage and check-in restrictions. You might also want to compare with Air France and Alitalia...sometimes, the big airlines will offer similar deals but better schedules.
For London, the easiest and cheapest form of transportation is the Eurostar, hands down. It's faster than any airline because it takes you downtown to downtown. Advance round trip tickets can be very inexpensive if booked well ahead of time. Some recent users have noted that ticket prices on the UK site are cheaper than tickets on its worldwide site....you can check both out at www.eurostar.com and www.eurostar.co.uk

while I guess it is possible to do....is it suggested...no. If you were to do this I would say ensure that you have at least three night in Rome. This is just my opinion. Norm gives good advice.

As for Frank ignore him like most of us do.

Thank you Norm for your last piece of advice and bluedenim. As for the rest of you, do you guys have nothing better to do but go to this message board? I'm noticing that most people on this post has +2000 post. STOP! GET OFF THE INTERNET AND INTERACT WITH LIFE!

Look at how seriously you guys took a question that was simple. What's your point in posting? Don't cloud up my post, get off the internet, and go do something productive. You guys will be much happier people.

Annie says "You guys will be much happier people" but she is the one with the angry, uncivil, hostile attitude. Doesn't come across as very happy to me.

Well, Annie, you asked for advice, and you got it. Four of use, with almost 12,000 posts and cumulatively, I'm sure, over 100 years of travel experience, told you you can't do it, shouldn't even try. So what do you do? You bad mouth us for giving you what you asked for, advice.

What was YOUR point in posting? You won't accept the advice you asked for because it wasn't what you wanted to hear. Maybe you're the one who should get off the internet. You wasted our time by asking for advice when you already knew what you wanted to do.

While some apparently know what "most of us" are thinking, the forum members I know respect Frank's advice and value his service here helping travelers.

Wow, if you thought her postings here were hostile, you should have seen the PM I received. That young lady knows how to use four letter words without much hesitation. Sad !!

I rise to Frank's defense. His experience is valued and respected here. I thought the previous remark was completely inappropriate for this forum.

It takes time to establish credibility on a forum like this and Frank did that many, many posts ago. Others might consider his example.

I still think the original post was just trolling.

Lee, that was an unkind remark to bluedenim and not worthy of you.

Norma,

Doug said, "His experience is valued and respected here."

Kent said, "the forum members I know respect and value Frank's advice and his service here helping travelers."

I agree. I know Frank and respect him for his knowledge and his willingness to help.

So when I see him being ruthlessly attacked, as in BD saying, "As for Frank ignore him like most of us do", I am not going to stand passively aside and let that happened. I stuck up for him as a valued contributer on this site. If that somehow makes me guily, so be it.

Now, if BD had said, Frank is a valued contributor on this site but sometimes very "Frank", I might have been able to respect that, but I considered his remark offensive.

Annie:
Frank is right. You are an example of why I rarely post here anymore and when I do it is directly to the person asking the question. You need a lot of growing up, young lady.
