I will be in Paris in July for a week with a chance to visit a cousin in Geneva, Europe rail options seem so confusing to me with the multiple days and cities. Which is the best and most economical option?
The fastest, most comfortable, and often cheapest way to travel between the two cities will be by rail. There are direct high-speed TGV trains that make the journey in just 3 hours. If you book well in advance (90 days allowed) you can often get discount fares for around $40USD. Check schedules and purchase tickets at http://www.tgv-europe.com. Tell the site that you live in the UK so you can print your tickets out at home.
What Michael said. The TGV only takes 3 hours city cinder to city center, with Jo airport hassles. I just saw fares as low as 25 euros for July travel.
would love some help from Lola and Michael on this. I don't see any high speed trains on the tgv website (it is more than an 11 hr ride) and nothing cheaper than 110 Euro's for early July. What am I doing wrong?
fariba,, I don't know what you are doing wrong, I just went on the link Michael provided you and found the tickets for 25 euros each way also( I picked July 12 since you did not tell us a date). You go on the link provided. You click on UK as your country( do not get redirected to RailEurope) , you stay on TGV site. You put in Paris -Geneva. The prices for different times of the day come up( each time can have a different price, just choose the cheapest time if you are not worried about a schedule. It is a three hour trip. Perhaps you should tell us what you are doing?
My date is July 7th, one way, and I clicked on the link. It says your country of residence and I clicked on US. Then from the drop down menu UK is not a choice for country so again I picked US. The lowest displayed fare for 3.5 hr train was 58 Euro's per person this time.
Fariba you did it right,, thats the best fare for that date now,, it will go up as date approches,, thats why later date I put in was shorter.. also one ways may be a bit more then returns,, not sure.I am going to check. Also are you set on that date? Sometimes leaving on another day is cheaper( fridays sat and sun sometimes are more) . 58 euros is a fair price. Wonder how you got those other higher fares,, oh well who cares,,you got if figured out~
Found some lower fares,, one on the 11th for 37 euros. I even found one for 25 euros again, but for a train that leaves in the evening. . do you have to go on the 7th,, when is return date, same day or when?
thanks for your help Pat, I do have a return flight to U.S. from London on July 11th so my flexibility is between July 3 and July 10 to do the Eurostar train from London to Paris and then on to Lausanne or Geneva
