I will be flying out of Manchester to Salzburg on March 16, I need help finding the cheapest transportation to get from Salzburg to Schladming, to Koblenz/heidelberg Germany area, (I need to drop off some luggage at school in Schladming). I was wondering if there is a cheap DB rail pass for a day that will cover all this or would some eurail pass be cheapest? I will be exploring castles in the rhine region for a few days after I arrive, not sure if that factors into a cheap pass. Thanks!
Salzburg to Schladming to Salzburg is Austria. A German Rail pass won't work. Rarely is a rail pass cost effective for one day of travel. Look at German Rail website. You can get a Sparpreis ticket for Salzburg to Koblenz starting at €29 (up to 92 days in advance). Transportation for the Rhein valley can be €21 for a Rheinland-Pfalz-Ticket, which include everywhere from Bonn to Mannheim or a VRM Tageskarte for €17 for everywhere from Oberwesel down to the Nordrhein-Westfalen border (Remagen). Up date: I see you can also get a Europa-Spezial fare from Schladming to Koblenz for €39 with advance purchase.
