Flying out of PHX to AMS, what is the best/cheapest route or alternate city to fly into? Before anyone suggests google flight search I tried it and it won't do flights over 15 days. I want to leave on June 20th and return around the 11th of July (flexible). Thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks Joel, I have and several others they all come back with fare around $1600 (900 for air and the rest in taxes and fees).

For peak summer travel, that is probably not a really bad rate at this late date. Could $200 going into Paris but it would cost you that much to get back to Amsterdam. And the Olympics could be working against you as tourist adjust travel plans to avoid the end of July and London.

Thanks Frank, totally forgot about the Olympics. Guess it's time to bite the bullet and book the flight. Thanks to both of you (Jeol and Frank) for your help. Any suggestions on what to not miss in the AMS area? Also need a reasonable place to stay...thoughts?

The fares just keep going up, so that price looks pretty good. One thing that I've done in the past (but the Olympics may interfere this year) is to fly into London and then use one of the low cost European carriers to get to my destination. But you'll typically need to change airports, so that needs to be factored into time and cost estimates.
