If you book well in advance on the National Express site, you can get a bus fare as low as £5.50. Booking is open for 22 November. If you book well in advance on the Megatrain site, you can get a train fare as low as £1.00. This is a special deal on regular South Western trains. As of today, booking is open through 29 October.

Train versus coach (bus):
Train is more comfortable. Bus may have better views of the countryside. Train tracks are often down in cuts or beside high hedgerows. Bus seats are higher up. But buses also are prone to traffic jams where you don't want to see anything.
