Norwegian air has just announced that they will fly from Oakland international airport to Paris for.... $ 600 round trip. Wow I would rather fly out of Oak than SFO any time. Maybe they will go to other places soon.
I just saw this as well.
They will also begin flying direct from Oakland to Rome in April.
And they will continue their direct flights to Oslo, Stockholm, Barcelona, and Gatwick!
Gotta love it!
I'm happy that they have established service starting Spring 2018 here in Chicago.
But read the fine print It will not be the eye catching $ 600 round trip all the time or the time when you want to go.
We saw $497 flights OAK to Paris today with United almost matching the fare. There was also OAK to Gatwick on AA/BA for $482 on ITA. Good for most dates through May. I didn't go to the airline's website to test this though. Very tempting!
I picked April 17, 2018 coming back on April 28, 2018 and came up with a Oakland to Paris roundtrip (non stop both ways) of $474.50.
Book before the prices go up
Norwegian also is now offering non-stop from Denver to London. My daughter got round trip tickets for October for around $450!!
No checked luggage and no seat assignment but too good to pass up.
I've written extensively on Norwegian Air on the Forum before, so I won't go into detail now.
But I like Norwegian a lot -- mostly because the planes are new, the seating is 3-3-3, and there is much more leg room than my last flight on United.
I recommend it, but read the fine print because you will be charged for everything.
Norwegian Air Shuttle is expanding to the U.S. as fast as Boeing can supply new 787 Dreamliners to them.
And the big U.S. legacy air carriers are really mad--saying Norwegian's using Far Eastern employees that are not paid well, etc. It's not true for the most part.
We've flown transatlantic 3x with them, and had no issues whatsoever. The pilots appeared to be American and had just enough gray hair (experience.).
We need all the competition possible in these times of airline consolidation to keep everyone honest. If it wasn't for a few airlines challenging the status quo, we'd be paying $2K for round trips U.S.-Europe in the Summer.
Unfortunately, the middle of the U.S. is being left out as the budget airlines are flying mostly in the northeast, Florida and the heavily populated cities on the west coast.
