Never done this before- how to save $
Wayyyyyyyyyyy .......... too early. Start watching after the first of the year. The cheapest fare probably connect through some other city either this side or the other. However, the Denver/Munich direct flight via Lufhansa worth a small premiium both for service and convenience.
Patrica, yep you are too early to find the good prices, but not too early to learn HOW to find them!
Here is great web site to give you some tips:

Also, if you wait a month, you can load an "auto search" funtion into Orbitz.com. They are my favorite "over the pond" search engine. After you load in your destination, you can then load in a range of dates that you are thinking of flying, check out their price, load in a price that YOU would want to pay, and then wait for them to send you an EMail when that price is found. (Currently the direct Lufthansa/United, Denver to Munich flights are going for $660. Between there and $700 might be a good place to start.)
Also go to farecompare.com and it will automaically notify you each time the prices drop for your selected route.
We really enjoy flying with Luft on their direct routes, and if you can find a good price thru them you will be very happy!
