My sister and husban flew Lufthansa from Rome to Munich and they charged almost $600.00 for baggage/we had no choice but to pay or not get on flight/we has business class seats so had extra baggage limits but with the baby things (stroller/car seat/portacrib/I think we were totally ripped off. Anyone have any ideas on how to get some of this refunded? By the way/they were the rudest we have ever seen/wouldn't let us use the lounge (they said our passes were no good even though they were and we had proof /that is just the tip of iceberg but the baggage fees put everyone over the edge. Any help appreciated.

Thanks/will try that and let you know how we make out/we are also filing complaint with USAIR about not bring able to use our pass to the lounge after paying almost $600.00 a year for it.

Business class on Lufthansa allows each of you over 70 lbs. of checked luggage. If they charged $600 (roughly 480 euros) for excess, you had 105 lbs.(48 kilos)of excess baggage! Even with baby equipment, that's a lot of overweight. As Steve said, if the rules, which are complex, weren't followed in charging you for the excess you might be able to get it adjusted. Otherwise, you are stuck.
I hope you have better luck with regard to the airport lounge issue. I wonder how they could deny you use of the lounge if you had valid passes.

We should have just thrown the baby clothes away and bought new in the US. Would have been cheaper. I think they have two lounges in the airport and they wouldn't let us in one so directed us back through security to one on the second floor who wouldn't let us in either and sent us back to the first one with a 6 month old and we couldn't get in there either until we gave up. NEVER again will we use them for their rudeness. Thanks to all for help.a
