Changing planes in Iceland

I'm looking at flights to Europe and found IcelandAir is a good deal. However, there is only about 1 hour between flights. Is that enough time in Reykjavik airport to change from a US flight to a flight to Frankfurt? I'll have only carry-on luggage so I won't have to worry about bags.

Reykjavik airport is not large, 1 hour should be plenty. On my flight the time between flights was supposed to be 45 mins but due to original flight being delayed we ended up with only 20 mins and still had no problem getting to the new flight. I believe most of the flights through Reykjavik schedule about 1 hour for flight changes.

Iceland Air plans the flights for a quick change. It is a tiny airport, and this is part of their service. However, if you buy anything at the airport, watch your change carefully. They seem very nice, but then try to short change you. This is something I expect elsewhere but wasn't expecting in Iceland. It put such a bad taste in our mouths, we don't fly them any longer. (Sorry, I digressed.)

If you happen to be going through Iceland in the Summer, IcelandAir will often allow you to layover for free. Stay a day or two, rent a car and see the country. The people are absolutely beautiful, and it's a quite lively place to visit. Icelanders are simply bohemians. I'm sorry, but I have not seen such good prices recently on IcelandAir flights unless you're going out of their few gateway cities. I see they go out of Seattle.

Thanks for answering my question. When I flew threw Canada a couple years ago - it took forever to get thru the customs/passport check and I almost missed my plane - and I had close to 2 hours in between. So, I'm a little nervous now. I can fly from Seattle or Denver - so IcelandAir is looking like a great option right now. And, I'd love to have a free stayover - I'll check into that. Thanks again.

We've done Iceland Air from Seattle to Frankfurt and Amsterdam 3 times now, and will be using them again this summer. The layover always works. You go through passport control in Iceland. Their seats have more leg room, which is great - more leg room than the upgraded economy class on Delta (just flew them to Zurich for Christmas, and missed Iceland's leg room even with Delta's upgrade seating). Remember, they don't serve meals unless you pay for them, so take a sandwich and snacks with you!
