Changing Planes at Gatwick London

I will be flying from Venice to Glasgow. My itinerary requires me to change planes in Gatwick. I have a 3 hour layover between flights. Sadly, I am a smoker. Will I be allowed to go outside to have a cigarette between flights, or will be required to stay in the airport between flights?

There's no smoking places inside the airport.

You can obviously go out, but it'd involve C&I and all the rescreening malarkey coming back in.

As Gatwick would be the place of entry into the UK you would need to go through immigration and reclear security anyway. The terminal maps in the Gatwick Airport website indicates the limited smoking areas outside of the terminals.
