I need to find plane tickets for Europe soon that won't cost the earth if I need to change my travel dates. Any ideas?

Buy a changeable ticket. Use the advance search of the various search engine and select a high class of ticket. However, you may find the changeable ticket actually costs more than the change fee for a non-changeable ticket. Another option is to buy travel insurance that would cover a change charge.
