We were thinking of traveling from LAX to Nice, now rethinking the trip, considering flying from LAX to Paris than either renting a car or taking the train to Avaignon area to explore Provence via rental care. Anyone have any ideas on this plan. Also, considere flying LAX to London, spending a couple of days in London then on to France. Thoughts ideas?
Try this Fly into London, Chunnel to Paris TGV to Avignon Rent car at station Explore Provenance Fly home from Nice
Have fun planning
If what you really want to do is explore Provence, keep your original plan, or fly into Marseille. Marseille is France's 2d largest city, but the airport is so manageable and easy to deal with that you can get your car in minutes and be out on the road into rural Provence minutes later.
I think Geris plan is great, but, how much TIME do you have? If you have less then two weeks then I think it may be pushing it a tad. London and Paris both deserve 4-5 days( maybe a daytrip out of each city?)And Nice and surrounding areas( daytrip to Cannes or Monaco?) needs about 2-3 , leaving you how many days to really relax and explore Provence?
If time is an issue I think flying into Paris, 3-4 days, then train to Avignon is good, then ending in Nice and flying out of Nice.
Thank you all for the ideas. This will be quite a long trip and time is not a big factor. Our plan is to go to Provence first, then Paris for six days, then a river cruise starting in Zurich, ending in Amsterdam, quick flight to Stavager, then back to Amsterdam with a flight back to LAX. With that in mind, I have considered going directly to London, then to Paris taking the train to Avigon, then looking for a home base in Provence or flying to Paris, getting a hotel room for the night and then taking the train to Avigon. Just don't know, any thoughts anyone?
Ah Ah, someone used the term Chunnel!
Barry we were being polite and ignoring that ! lol
I should re post this as new French travel plans and hope that I can achieve some constructive help!
Since your original plan was to start in Nice, see a bit of Provence, and then spend six days in Paris, here is an alternative to consider. Fly to London and spend a few days there. Fly Luton-Nice on easyJet, Gatwick-Nice on British Airways, or Heathrow-Nice on British Airways. Tour Provence by rental car and then take a train to Paris.
These are all fine plans but if you are short on time leave London for another trip and take the train between Provence and Paris. You can rent a car in Provence; driving all the way will eat up a day (or more with stops) but the train is 2:30. Obviously open-jaw itineraries help too. Hard to be specific since we don't know more (what you want to see, when you are going, for how long).
