Change in flight schedule causing tight connection

Hello,
I booked a flight on April 2019, from TLV to JFK with UIA airline connecting in Kiev. I had 3 hours connection in Kiev before departing to JFK.
Today, I was informed that my flight was rescheduled and now the connecting flight is on 09:35, which leaves a 55 minutes connection. I contacted UIA and they told me that 50 minutes is the minimum time for international flights and refuses to reschedule my flight to a previous one. I was ready to wait 10 hours in airport instead of taking the risk of missing my flight due to a delay in TLV.
I know that if there will be delay and I will lost my flight, they will need to rebook me on the next flight - this is just the next day.

Can they refuse to help me reschedule?

Is that a Ukrainian airline? It depends what their rules are. You have to read the small print to see what leverage you have, but they set their own rules. US based airlines have to reschedule you (or even cancel your ticket for free) if the schedule change is more than a certain number of hours (2-3 or so). It wouldn't hurt to call again and talk to someone else. How big is the Kiev Airport?
