Change Departure City

We have a flight leaving out of Florence, stopping in Rome and then returning to the states. Is is possible to board the flight in Rome without making any changes (thus eliminating the need to return to Florence)?

You should check with the airline to be certain but as far as I know if you fail to show up for the first leg they will cancel the whole itinerary. The airline may let you change to an "open jaw" allowing you to board in Rome.

If you don't show up for your flight in Florence the airline will cancel your entire reservation, and sell your seat to another passenger. You may want to call the airline and switch the reservation to Rome. But this will likely incur a change fee of a couple hundred dollars.
