We are using Alaska miles for RT flight (PDX-LHR). We are confirmed in first class on American, which should be great! But our return routing goes LHR-BOS-ORD-SEA-PDX, with an overnight layover at BOS. Is there any real chance that we can changed to a more direct routing by the American agents at LHR when we check in, or is that wishful thinking??? If there's no real chance, I will book a hotel for our BOS layover --- but I don't want to do that if there's a chance we can get improved routing without overnight layover. Any guesses appreciated :)
I'd be surprised if you could change it with first class booking. Call Alaska's MVP line and see what they have to say.
If you were flying totally with the airline you accrued your frequent flyer miles with - there would be a good chance.
If you're travelling on another airline from the one you earned your frequent flyer miles with there isn't a hope. It would require a reissue of the tickets and this isn't permitted under IATA regulations for a voluntary re-route. Only in exceptional circumstances ( called an involutary re-route - to state the obvious ) is it permitted. Those circumstances include a total cancellation of the flight, the cancellation of the route, severe weather, natural disasters, war, civil unrest and the all encompassing 'act of God'. As much as we appreciate America's involvement in European wars during the last century - we're not planning one in the near future.
