Planning to travel Aug 2023 from Chamonix to Lyon. Any advice choosing between BlaBlaCar bus vs. SNCF train? The bus is a 4hr trip with 3 stops (I think we stay on the same bus? 20 euros/pp), and the train is a 6hr trip with (bus and 3 trains? 50 euros/pp). Is the BlaBlaCar bus reliable and safe? Is the train path more scenic?
Last September we went from Chamonix to Lyon by using Mountain Drop off shuttle to Geneva airport and then took a quick one stop train to the main Geneva train station and then the train to Lyon. I don't remember the train being particularly scenic, but we'd just finished an alps tour, so our standards were high. ;) Mountain Drop off picked us up at our hotel in a small van and we shuttled with 6 or so other people. We were going further south in France and had to switch trains in Lyon. I think the reason we did it that way was the timing.
Between these two, definitely BlaBlaCar Bus.
The government is a supporter of BlaBlaCar to get more individual cars off the road.
I agree, definitely the bus. The train is too much of a schlep. Scenery is roughly the same.
I took BlaBlaCar last June on a solo trip. It was reliable and definitely felt safe!
thank you all! Will report back which one I used after the trip!
