Chamonix to Geneva train station. Swiss Tours?

Has anyone taken the Swiss Tour bus from Chamonix to Geneva? It looks like it goest to the airport or the bus station. We're going to the train station, but we could walk to the train station from the bus station.

We looked at Mountain Drop offs, but we don't want to pay for private transfer. And I emailed them about going with a group and was told I should allow FIVE hours for this because they group people together later and while it usually takes 3.5 hours, they said to allow for 5. Our train leave Geneva at 11:30, so while this might work, it doesn't sound like a sure thing. It was a rather confusing email.

And then there's ouibus, but I heard they weren't reliable. Any experience with that?

Thank you.

Ouibus is now known as Blablabus. Its main competitor is Flixbus. Reliability isn't 100%, that's true, but it's not catastrophic either. However, traffic can be an issue.

The train can get you to Geneva in 3 hours or so, but you'll have to check times. It's a new line, so if you have a pre-2020 guidebook, you won't see it mentioned.

Where is your Geneva train going to? If you're going towards the rest of Switzerland, it is usually better to go from Chamonix to Martigny and travel from there.

Without looking up trains for current info, we were faced with 4 trains/3 changes a couple of years ago so chose to take shuttle, AlpyBus, with 9 passengers. Took an hour.

I took the Swiss Tour bus from Chamonix to Geneva on July 21. It was a great way to get there at a reasonable price. I would recommend it.

There are a number of private companies offering shared van transfers to/from Chamonix to either Geneva station or airport. That's probably the cheapest, quickest and easiest method to use. As I recall, the trip is about an hour.

Here's a few that you can consider.....

There are many more!

As I recall, I used Chamonix Valley Transfers and I was very pleased with the service.

I took a Swiss Tours bus on Tuesday, July 26, from Chamonix to the Geneva airport. We made a stop at the Geneva bus station too. It was extremely cheap, reliable, and professional.

I was scheduled to ride with Mountain Drop-offs that same day. Due to unexpected airline flight time changes, I had to forfeit my purchase. I can tell you that the cost was more than twice the price of the Swiss Tours bus, and that Mountain Drop-offs could not honor my original 10:00 departure time (they called to ask me to pick an earlier 9am or later 10:45 departure time).

If you are actually going to Nimes there may not be a need to go in to Geneva at all. You can book Saint-Gervais-Les-Bains (the mainline station for Chamonix) to Nimes on www.sncf-connect.com. The trip will involve a train, then a bus, then a TGV, but it can be done all on one booking, and obviates the need to find a way in to Geneva.

(In fact, SNCF should be able to sell you a ticket from Chamonix to Nimes, but probably can only do this at the station).
