Chamonix to Geneva - any recent experiences?

I've been looking into getting a transport booked from Chamonix to the Geneva airport next month, for a flight home. I've found lots of past posts and recommendations for shuttle services in these forums. Has anyone used a Chamonix transport company or service in the last 6 months or so? Or even the last year? I'm asking because it seems like there have been some changes with some of the commonly used companies. Alpybus was recommended a lot here - but their recent reviews are pretty awful. Our Rick Steves tour information recommends Blablacar - which I thought was a rideshare - but it appears they now have buses. In fact when I tried to look for the Ouibus website, it went to blablacar. Also very mixed reviews for them for the past several months.

I am not looking for top of the line transportation - just something reliable! If anyone has used Albybus or the Blablacar busing recently, I would love to hear about it. I'd rather not spend 200E on Mountain Drop Offs, but that is what I'm leaning towards. I really don't want to take chances and be late or miss a flight...

Katie,
Check out Chamexpress.
My daughter and I took this shuttle from Geneva Airport to Chamonix a few years back, and it appears that they’re still in business.

They offer private or shared shuttles. We took the shared shuttle with 3 other passengers. The shuttle driver was professional, friendly and helpful.

We appreciated the door to door service. You need to reserve in advance.

Enjoy your trip!

Priscella - I actually looked into Chamexpress earlier this week. According to their website, they are now owned and operated by the same company as Alpybus, and recent reviews for them are also poor (Google and Tripadvisor reviews). So that is why I'm asking for more recent feedback on any of the transport companies. I think there have been some changes with them since covid.

Steven - I think we'd like to do a car/van/bus transport since it is quite a bit shorter time-wise.

Katie , I understand your position . If it doesn't work out , keep the train in mind as an alternative , The trip is picturesque by rail , the switch at Le Fayet is simply cross platform and the connection to Geneva , a piece of cake . A;so the reliability of the service is incomparable . Enjoy Chamonix , it's delightful !

Katie, I am hoping you receive current feedback. I also need to book a shuttle from Chamonix (Hotel Plan B) to Geneva, and am concerned about reliability. Also — are you Covid testing in Geneva? At the airport?

Steven thank you, I will keep that in mind. I'll talk with my family about it too.

Carla I am not sure about covid testing! Haven't gotten that far. We'll be on a RS tour so I'm hoping our guide will let us know about options. Is there anything you have found out that I should be aware of?

Katie,
I’m on a mid-July Rick Steves My Way Alpine Tour. Is your tour before, or after, mine?

Here is what I’m considering. I need to book transport from our Rick Steves hotel in Chamonix, to Geneva, as Rick Steves recommended. My flight departs Geneva at 6:55am!! So I am planning to stay an extra night at a hotel in Geneva next to the airport, and test. Let’s say I test positive and can’t fly… is it easier to arrange 10 days lodging in Chamonix or Geneva…? Chamonix is at absolute peak season mid-July through August, so I’m thinking Geneva would be easier to piece together lodging. Also, are their different restrictions or quarantine to follow in Switzerland vs France? I don’t know. I’m trying to figure it out…

Hi Carla! Our tour is before yours. I am also trying to figure out airport transport and covid testing.

Since my last reply I have been reading over in the Covid forum, and that has been very helpful. There is lots of info over there on testing for re-entry into the US. I think we plan to either test at a local pharmacy or site in Chamonix the day before we fly, or we might do a virtual proctored test. According to many posts in the covid forum, you can order those ahead of time and bring them with you. I found information online that stated testing at the Geneva airport is the equivlant of 50ish euros, pharmacy testing in Chamonix seems to be around 20-25.

Back to the transport issue...one thing I am worried about is the cancellation/change policy. Even for Mountain Drop Offs it doesn't seem super flexible if something happens. I know the advice is to book from home before you leave. But - what if you test positive while on tour , or your re-entry test is positive, or the airline changes your flight time.

We used this company in December: https://www.chamonix-valley-transfers.co.uk/
We did the private transfer because there were 4 of us, but they have shared ones, too, I believe. Great service, on time, helped with bags, dropped right at terminal. Couldn't have been easier.

Thanks Celeste for sharing your experience! I actually already booked with Mountain Drop Offs. Hopefully it all goes well.
