We are trying to do a big loop in September 2025. The part of the loop that has me stumped is the Chamonix/Zermatt area. We will be coming from Colmar, France. Is there a better way than the train? We love the train, but some of the trips are up to 15 hours. Can the cable cars help us out? A Bus?
We are in the early stages of planning, so adding or subtracting is ok.
After Zermatt, we wanted to go over towards Salzburg, but that is a haul as well. Thanks!
I get 6 to 7 hours cutting through Switzerland. You might be having a problem because the TERs between Colmar and Basel and between Vallorcine and Chamonix are not yet officially scheduled by SNCF for September. You are too early to look at these. Wait a few months before they show up on the schedule.
Chamonix through Vallorcine to Martigny to Visp to Zermatt. Check the SBB website for the Swiss portions. Total seems to be about 4 hours. As mentioned the schedules may not be available yet.
