We're going to be traveling by train from Beaune to Chamonix/Annecy and then to Murren. Any recommendation as to whether we should go to Chamonix or Annecy first based on train routes? Also, what is the best route to get to Interlaken (we've been to Murren before so we know the route from there)?
The railway connections via MArtigny are quite scenic, despite the crappy bus that is replacing rail between Chamonix and the Swiss border.
One suggestion, if you have the time, is to go to Annecy first and Chamonix-Mt. Blanc second. From Chamonix-Mt. Blanc, there is a mini-bus service that shuttles you to the Geneva Airport. It departs Chamonix every 45 minutes. In an hour, you are at the airport and perhaps the train station there. Here's a link to the bus service. http://www.chamexpress.com/?gclid=CNiC1-rTxLECFWIGRQodNBgA7w Next, you take the train to Montreux where you can transfer to the Golden Pass Scenic train to Interlaken Ost. You will change trains at Zweisimmen where the track gauge changes.
Thanks for your replies. I have been looking at the train schedules and noticed that some of them include bus transfers which is my concern. We have always traveled by train so we are not familiar with the buses. How reliable are the buses?
