Doing the My Way Alpine in Sept (Yea) - how far in advance should I book
the transfer from Chamnoix to Geneva? Any preferences between Mt Dropoffs,
Cham Express or Oui Bus? (Those were the recommendations given to me by Rick's
office.
I will be on the My Way Bus - just need transfer from last day of tour to
Geneva Airport Hotel. Maybe one day I can rent a car but not this trip.
We did this tour last May and loved it! The scenery was spectacular. So much freedom to do what you want, but with support from the tour manager if you need it. We didn't do what you are asking about--we took the train to Montreux for some more traveling--but many others did. I would guess you would book it about a month out, but you could always call or email them to find out. Some people were actually able to book it on the spot because of threats of rail strikes. The transportation they had planned had to be switched in order to get to Paris for flights and they called at the last minute. But I'm not recommending that!
Sarah,
My daughter and I took the ChamExpress shuttle from Geneva’s Airport to Chamonix.
The driver was professional, friendly and helpful. This shuttle is great because it’s a door-to -door service.
I contacted ChamExpress, via email, with my questions and they were always prompt in replying and offering helpful answers. I booked our ride 2 months in advance, but that was for a trip at the end of May.
You may want to contact Chamexpress with this question, just to be safe 😉
Enjoy your trip!
We took AlpyBus and were very pleased. A shuttle is surely the easiest way from Chamonix to Geneva Airport.
Sarah,
There are quite a number of shuttle services between Geneva and Chamonix. I used Chamonix Valley Transfers and was extremely pleased with the service. I was the only one in the vehicle, so the driver dropped me off right at the front door of my hotel.
One other point to mention..... if you're planning to take the cable car up to the Aguille du Midi, be aware of altitude issues as that could be a problem. The top level is at about 12,605 feet and that can be a problem for some people.
Thank you for all the helpful information - I had thought about the altitude - I live in the mountains (hills) - I go to the highest point in Virginia but we are only above 5,000 ft. Happy Travels!!
Sarah,
You may be somewhat acclimatized but don't underestimate the effects of 12,500 feet. It's insidious and could appear when you least expect it.
Be sure you're aware of the signs & symptoms in case it affects you - http://www.altitude.org/altitude_sickness.php .
Thanks for the information.
