Central Portugal Car rental

I'm planning to rent a car in Evora for just four days, returning either to Tomar or Coimbra. I'm running into weekend closures for Hertz (which, so far looks like the best pricing). So far I'm not finding car rental places in Tomar - again suggestions welcome.

I'd like input into other rental options (I usually book through carrentals.com) and better locations. I've seen the Coimbra train station mentioned as a drop-off but don't see anything on the rental sites. Things like that would be helpful. I hate to keep the car for an extra day in Coimbra just because of Sunday so if anyone knows of options, please share.

My drop-off location is the biggest issue because of Sunday, but other rental agency suggestions are also welcome.

According to Google Maps:

  • Europcar has the closest location to Tomar train station (closed at lunchtime and on Sat and Sundays), while the Hertz office is out of town (open Saturday mornings, closer to Carvalhos de Figueiredo train station).

  • Europcar also has the closest location to Coimbra-B train station (the station tourists usually use), open Saturday mornings but closed Sundays, as may be the case for all except airport locations.

  • And yes, Europcar is also closest to Evora train station.

Europcar often charges the same rate for 5, 6, or 7 days. Try a search through www.AutoEurope.com to see if you get better pricing.
