CDG train station Q

Because I'm stupid, I've decided to take the train from CDG to Strasbourg after I land. Yeah, I know, "What the Hell were you thinking?", right? Listen, trip planning doesn't happen in a vacuum; Chivas and soda has been a long-time contributor to my trip planning and damned if I'm going to ignore its sage wisdom this late into the game. Besides, I already bought the train tickets.

(Apart from late arrivals, getting stuck in custom lines, getting lost in CDG or falling asleep while waiting for the train, what could possibly go wrong?)

Oh, yeah, the question:

Is there some signage that tells weary, jet-lagged and potentially half-loaded travelers which tracks to wait next to? I'm assuming there's two sets of tracks involved in this fiasco: those that lead to Strasbourg and those that lead to potential divorce once my wife figures out we're stuck in CDG sans hotel and not heading en route to the romantic Alsace as planned.

Oh, God, I'm doomed... CHIVAS, SAVE ME!

(plz say there's a sign!)

Signage will clearly show which escalator to descend to the proper track for the train to Strasbourg.

Cjean,

I am truly in awe of your powers of website-finding. I tried every permutation of "CDG train strasbourg" in Google that you can imagine and didn't once hit that amazing site! Many thanks unto you!

SharYn,

Oh, you know I will. Like the swallows allegedly returning to Capistrano, I will return here and report on my many merry adventures through France and those other countries that aren't France.

Problem 1 - find the station. Charles de Gaulle airport has multiple terminals, and depending on which termninal you land at you may need to get an inter-terminal shuttle.
See airport map here. the station is marked as "Gare TGV": https://www.parisaeroport.fr/docs/default-source/passager-fichiers/plans/plan_masse_cdg.jpeg
Or alternative map here: https://www.about-paris.com/transport/charles_de_gaulle_airport_plan.jpg

Problem 2 - finding the correct platform
This is the easy bit. Same as any station, just look at the video screens, find the "Voie" (platform) number and follow numbered signs.
Click her for sample screen. From left to right it lists; departure time, train number, final destination (with scrolling display of intermediate stops) and platform number. Numbers are not posted until 10-15 minutes before departure.

Ah well, the "Strasbourg" bit just confuses Google into finding hits for Strasbourg. And Googling in French helps, and the French never abbreviate it to "CDG".
Try Googling for "Gare TGV Charles de Gaulle" and be amazed, links, images, videos.

Salzburg!!

Princess P. If he ends up on the train to Salzburg instead of Strasbourg, his wife will skin him alive. No amount of Chivas will help.

Well, maybe, if she is in a good mood and decides to let Mike off easy

Dare we ask, "how much time did you give yourself"?

Wait -- there's a Salzburg as well?!

Oh, yeah, I left myself plenty of time (sayeth the Fool): I land at 11:15 and my train is at 3:15. That's . . . plenty of time, right?

Also, I'm wise to the ways of the wife once murder is in her eye. Generally, I have enough warning that my death at her hands is probably imminent to either flee, or quickly find some roses. However, being trapped at the train station with her might change the math a little.

I was never really good at math, 'tho.

Ohh, the horrors of polluting Chivas with carbonated beverage.......

As the judge I rule your wife goes free on the grounds of justifiable homicide.

Because you are “stupid”, you will be taking the train to Strasbourg after you land....in what part of the planet does that make you stupid? 😂😂😂

I’ve been traveling overseas for over 35 years and have taken the train from the airport many times to my first or only destination. For those people who are so glued to traveling by car to call you stupid are the ones who need to look at a mirror and wave at their own stupidity!

The signage is easy. Don’t worry!

Now pour a drink for me please! Cheers! 🥃

Chivas requires disguising. Just glad he isn't adulterating a decent whisky like Lagavulin.

CJean,

My dram of choice is The Macallan 18. However, my wallet's dram of choice is Chivas, or Monkey Shoulder in a pinch. Lagavulin 16 is always a welcome visitor in my house, 'tho.
