CDG to Paris Transportation

My wife and I will be staying at 19 Rue Commandant Rene Mouchotte in Paris and would like to use public transportation from CDG. Any recommendations on the best way to get from the airport to our hotel using either the metro or RER?

You've got a couple of options (assumption is that you're staying at the Meridien): The more simple is to walk down the steet to the Montparnasse-Bienvenue metro station, catch Metro 4 over to Denfert-Rochereau and from there the RER B out to the airport. If you're heavy on luggage, take the hotel exit into the parking garage and cut through it to the Gaite metro station and ride Metro 13 to Montparnasse- Bienvenue and proceed as above. Make sure that, when you get on the first metro line, you buy a ticket all the way out to Roissy or you'll get nailed for a zone violation when you try to exit at the airport. Edit: Ack! Being stupid, I did it backwards. Just use the above in reverse. But, you'll be walking slightly uphill if you quit riding trains at Montparnasse-Bienvenue. The ticket you buy at CDG will get you all the way in no matter how you skin the skunk.

Bill, You may find it helpful to have a look at This Website. It provides an excellent description (with pictures) of travel from CDG to Paris. I normally use the RER "B" to travel as far as Gare du Nord or one of the other stations on that line, and then transfer to the Metro. As ed mentioned, the RER ticket you purchase at CDG is also good for the Metro, unless you exit the system. One point to note - I assume you're staying at the Pullman Paris Hotel? If that's the case, their website states "From the airports: Air France coaches will drop you off 55 yards (50 m) from the hotel." Travel by Bus from the airport may be a better option than the train. There's information on the various Paris airport transfer options in both the France or Paris Guidebooks (I'd highly recommend packing a copy along). Happy travels!

Have you read what RS recommends in his Paris Guide Book?
We used one of his recommendation for taking public transportation and it worked out fine.

To clarify Ken's post and my confusing one, in this case nothing happens at Nord - - it's just one of many stations you'll pass through riding the RER B to Denfert-Rochereau where either your first or only change will occur.

I have picked up the Air France bus from CDG a couple of times. However, I don't exactly know where you are staying. If you can swing the Air France bus...it is a good deal. I believe I paid (this was two years ago)...possibly 24 euro roundtrip? They sell one way tickets, but if you know you are going back, I believe the roundtrip ticket gives you a discount. Anyway, I took it from CDG to the Lafeyette Concorde where I was staying. This is a jewel in itself. The bus took me directly to my hotel. The hotel was sufficient enough for my needs. The hotel has a mall attached to it complete with a very nice grocery store. But best of all, it is connected to Line 1 which goes straight through Paris and all of it's sites. So, long story short, you could take the Air France bus to the Lafeyette Concorde, then take Line 1 to whatever connecting line to your hotel. The bus continues on to drop people of at the L'etoile stop. I don't know where it goes from there but I think back to CDG. Check with Air France, they may have other buses and other routes. To me, this was efficient and inexpensive. I can't remember where I picked it up from CDG, I think it was on the lowest level of the airport. Quite an efficient system and inexpensive. One word of advice. I did not check bags on my flight so when I got to the AF bus, there was no line. However my friend coming from a different city in the US did check a bag. She got to the AF bus much later and when I think almost all of the incoming international flights did. She waited for three buses and finally her and her friend took a cab. I think I had a one up in the sense that I did not check a bag and beat the traffic. Or, maybe it was because I was coming fom Chicago and she was coming from Houston? Who knows. All I know is that the AF bus rocked solid for me as well as staying at the Lafayette Concorde and being on Line 1. Hope this helps.

Forgot to mention. You do not have to have flown Air France to take their bus...they cater to anyone.

Also forgot to mention that you pay for the Air France bus ON THE BUS. Don't need to buy a ticket anywhere in advance. He just collects it from you on the bus. When on the bus, if you know you all are going to return on the bus, he will sell you a roundtrip ticket then and that is the best deal. But just know, you pay on the bus. So once in CDG, just follow the signs for ground transportation. I know I had to take a train in the airport at some point. Then you are thrown out onto the ground level. Ask anyone for help. The buses are right out on the curb. Worked for me. Bonne chance!
