Carte Orange card

We plan to visit Paris for 6 days very soon, and would like to purchase the Carte Orange. Our host( we're staying in a B&B) feels we don't need it and should purchase the Paris visitor pass? I know R. Steve's recommends the Carte Orange. Any ideas?

The Carte Orange is valid from Monday-Sunday, but it can be a good value for less than seven days if your first and last days fit the purchase requirements. For example, if you bought it on Wednesday, it would be good Wednesday-Sunday. There are no sales on Thursdays. If you buy it Friday-Sunday, it won't be valid until Monday. You'll also have to pay €5 for the rechargeable passe Navigo Decouverte card on which you will load the Carte Orange.

While the Paris Visite pass is overpriced, you can begin using it any day of the week.

For people who like to explore Paris on foot and won't be taking lots of rides each day, buying ten-ticket carnets as needed and sharing the tickets works well.

Teresa,

The orange is so dependent on arrival and departure during the week. I visited Paris for Five days last May me and my girlfriend found it easiest to ten-ticket carnets as needed. They worked out great and that way we only paid for what we used and it worked out right.

I'm sorry, Sharon, but the information in the guidebook is a bit misleading. (See my note above on this thread.) Yes, the passe Navigo Decouverte is a rechargeable card and it does cost €5. It's good for ten years. However, what you load on it is still called a Carte Orange. The weekly version is the Carte Orange Hebdomadaire. (There is also a monthly Carte Orange.)

Thanks Tim! I'll delete my post to avoid any further confusion! Sharon
