Carseat in Taxis?

Hello - we'll be traveling to Britain/Ireland with our 2 1/2 year old son and wondering if we're required to have a car seat in a taxi or shuttle from the airport to our hotel. I am actually kind of a car seat fanatic, so it freaks me out to not use one, and will for sure get one when we rent a car for a longer period of time (for various reasons we aren't renting one from the airport), but can we ride with him in a taxi/shuttle without one? We would take the tube, but we're not even landing until 10:45pm, so need a taxi/shuttle. I looked online (http://www.childcarseats.org.uk/law/#under3) and it kind of gives contradicting info: in one spot is says its ok if a restraint seat isn't available, but the it says its required in a taxi. I'm confused - help! Thanks!

Be prepared to be freaked out. It is my understanding, that car seats are not required for taxis or shuttles. We traveled with our son, dil, and a 2+ granddaughter without any car seat. DIL was pretty unhappy that seats were not provided.

They're not required in commercial vehicles.
