Carryon Bag changes between Airlines

In Oct 2008, I took my 24L X 17W X 10H as a carryon via AF from BOS to Rome.
I'm preparing the same bag for upcoming (hopefully) AF from LAX to CDG. The measurements on AF website are 22L X 14W X 10H for all classes of travel. Seems what works for Alaska Air no longer works for AF.

Yes, most airlines have instituted tighter restrictions on sizes for carryon luggage. I don't know of any where you could carryon a 24" anymore.

Thank you, Nancy and Steve.
The world is ever fluid. I hope the overhead bins aren't empty.

All airlines, both domestic and international, have been increasing restrictions and decreasing allowances for quite awhile. You may want to note that Air France also has carry-on weight limits that they may or may not enforce. I believe the limits are 12 and 18 kg total (meaning your hand baggage and personal item combined), depending on class. The hand baggage dimensions do not vary by class. I recently flew with Swiss and expected them to weigh and measure my hand baggage with the sizer…they did neither. And, I saw lots of bags that were clearly larger than what was supposed to be allowed. I remember reading another poster’s recent experience with Lufthansa…same thing. Still, I wouldn’t take any chances with respect to ensuring your baggage meets the requirements.

I also wouldn't take chances on the sizing requirements. Just because they don't check carefully on some flights, doesn't mean they won't on others.

My experience is that foreign airlines can be generally more strict about carryons than US airlines (at least for US domestic flights). But even on US domestic flights I've seen the cabin crew crack down when the flight is sold out and space is tight.

I try to have all my absolute [can't bear the thought of being gate-checked] necessities in my "personal item" bag that will fit underneath a seat.
