Carry on restrictions Easy Jet and BMI

I am hoping to travel with carry on only and was hoping to have one carry on bag (type yet to be determined) and one personal item which would be my camera bag that looks like a messenger which holds my camera and two lens.

woudl this be ok on these airlines?

When we used both these airlines, we had to check luggage that are considered carry on by most airline standards. BMI- I had to check my roll aboard (too large). They let my husband carry on his RS pack but only because it was not full and went under the weight limit. Easy Jet- we had to check them both and carried on a backpack with emergency items that we could not get through one night without (a couple pair of clean underwear, prescriptions, glasses, camera, etc.) Overall, these smaller budget airlines (Easyjet, BMI, Ryan) are stricter than the larger airlines (American, British Air, etc) Look at their size and weight restrictions carefully...they do enforce them. (Disclaimer: BMI last used in 2002, Easyjet 2003 so my experience is somewhat dated)

I'm traveling with BMI out of Vancouver to London, and they now allow a carry on and one personal item such as a purse, laptop bag, etc. Check the web site for the sizes. The weight would be more of a concern than size - I've found that it's easy to get over the weight limit within their size restriction.

crud there goes that plan as it seems like easy jet will only allow one piece of baggage.

Yes, one means ONE on EasyJet. I checked a bag with no problem and took a carryon as well. Fortunately, their flights are one-leg, shorter flights so there is little chance of a checked bag getting lost.

BMI allows one piece plus a personal item. The carry-on bag must be less than 21.6 x 15.7 x 9 inches. No weight restriction.

Most wheeled bags will probably not fit the above unless you get a 19" bag or less.

good to know BMI does not have a weight restriction I will have to do the measurements carefully. I am considering getting two new bags for the trip so I am open.
I am less concerned like you said about losing a back on a one leg journey such as easy jet but when changing that is a different story.

Is your BMI booking actually with them, or, because I'm looking at your location, actually being done by Air Canada? I'm flying BMI to London this summer from Vancouver, but it's run by Air Canada. And so, I have to follow Air Canada's restrictions which include a maximum weight of 22 pounds for either your carry-on or personal item. Just be careful if the flight is being done by another airline which seems to be somewhat common with some of BMI's routes, and check their guidelines too.
