We are ticketed through American on our upcoming flight from Chicago to Frankfurt with a layover in London. The London - Frankfurt segment is a British Airways flight. We're hoping to travel with just a carryon each, keeping within AA guidelines for size/weight. Will we have to follow BA guidelines for the London-Frankfurt segment (for which I understand the carryon limit is much less weight-wise) or AA guidelines? If we have to follow BA guidelines, I'm assuming we'll have to check our carryons in London if they are over the BA limit? Thanks for advice - can't find the answer anywhere on the AA site.

BA's hand baggage limits are 22 x 18 x 10 and for weight: "You must be able to lift the bag into the overhead locker unaided." I Your second bag has to be a maximum of 40 cu". I hate to tell you this but that's more lenient than American's carry-on limit in terms of size. Neither has a weight limit.

Looking at the B/A website, it doesn't look like they have a weight limit for carryon, only a size limit (22"x18"x10").

Thanks Lee and Frank. For some reason I had it in my head that BA had an 11 pound carry on limit. Very happy to be proven wrong!
