CAR vs. Train from CDG to Louveciennes for a week holiday

I am travel for a week holiday with my husband and 6 yr old son. I am trying to decided whether we should rent a car at CDG, and if we do which car company is the most reliable. We are staying in Louveciennes. We are trying to be economical (max of $500 dollars to be spent on transportation); we want to explore the countryside, and we have a plane to catch at 9am departing on British Airways from CDG on Monday morning. Your suggestions are greatly appreciated. ~A

If you really want to explore the countryside, you will need a car. The question is, when and where.

If Louveciennes (near Paris, right?) is your base for this exploration, and you are up to driving there from CDG first thing, you might consider renting your car at the airport. If not, or if you know you will only want a car for a few days of your trip (and not the first day), you could make other arrangements.

You probably do not want to use your car to drive into Paris or other area that is served by mass transit and where parking would be a hassle.
