Car travel in the UK

We are picking up a car in Portsmouth and would like to drop it off in Holyhead before getting on the ferry to Dublin. We do need to get a car as we want to drive up the Welsh coast. I'm not having success finding a rental car where I can pick up in Portsmouth and drop off in Holyhead. Has anyone any suggestions on how to accomplish this?
Thanks for any help.

I think you might be in a whammy. As far as I know, Hertz has the lock on Holyhead, but you can't always return at the port terminal, you usually have to use the joint at the long stay car park. Since you can't hop the fence and walk in a straight line, it's about a half-mile hike. Hertz doesn't have a place at Portsmouth. It does at Southamption, but the operation at the railway station won't let you go one-way- - you have to go out to the airport for that.

Thank you for the info. I also heard from Enterprise which indicated they could do rent me a vehicle as well, with a drop off fee. I'm ok with the drop off fee, I was expecting that. I haven' booked the rental yet, I'll up date the page when I'm finished.

Kathy, I would be interested to know if you have any luck, as we need to do the same but from Southampton to Holyhead. Please let me know if Enterprise is allowing a one-way rental. Thanks!

I just talked to Enterprise. Out of Portsmouth, they are only open until noon. You can rent from Southampton but it might only be from the airport. I would call them and ask them if they can pick you up at the ferry and take you back to the airport. They did confirm you could drop it at Holyhead. I can't use them, but good luck to you! Let me know if you can use them or if you have to use someone else. Number is 1-800-736-8222.
