Car Travel in Ireland

I was just wondering if anyone would know if Credit Cards are accepted for gas in Ireland. We are trying to figure out how much cash we might need to take. We like to use our Capital One Card as there is no transaction fee. I know ATMS are available but we try not to use them too much because of the fees. Any suggestions.

We use a credit card to pay for gas everywhere we go, including Ireland. Be sure to have a second well recognized card as back up like Visa. Remember to take out large sums of cash when using the ATM. Better to pay the fee once than a dozen times for small amounts. Still in all, considering the price of the trip overall this fee business is background noise.

Depending on the length of your trip you might not have to worry about it much anyway. Cars there get much better mileage than they do here. On my last trip (1 week) I changed locations every day and only filled up once.

We took a driving trip to NW Ireland this past Aug. We drove over 1700K and filled up 4 times, all with a credit card. No problems. Dan

We drove the south half and used credit cards all over. ATM for cash and credit card for B&B's and gas. Remember to stay on left sife of road; just follow the car in front of you!
