We will be driving from Rome to Zurich in two days. Which are the best sites to visit along the way? Where can we spend the night on day 1?

The drive should take about 9.0 hours overall plus time to stop for fuel and/or food. The halfway mark is somewhere between Bologna and Parma. A bit further and a little out of the way is Veronna. Or, a bit further on your drive is Milan. Or, you could drive further on the first day and make it to Lugano or Bellinzona in Switzerland. Please note that while driving in Switzerland, you will be required to have a vignette sticker on your car. I believe these can be purchased at the border for about 40CHF.
