Car/Train travel in Italy

We will be flying into Venice and immediately renting a car and heading to the Dolomites for some hiking. We plan to make our way to the lake area and then to Cinque Terre, Florence and Venice. Where is the best place between the lakes and Cinque Terre to get rid of the car? Thanks.

I would suggest Milan or Genoa as these are the larger cities on the way to the CT. There are other choices in the smaller cities as well.
