Does anyone know where I can pick up two booster seats in paris??? I hate to rent them, they are $15.00/day. I can buy one for that amount?
I'll bet that the big Carrefours have them. If you're flying in and pick up a car at Roissy, then heading into the city: split off the A1 onto the A3 a couple of miles from the airport. Right after you make the turn, look up to your left for the Carrefour sign, circle around taking lefts until you wind up in the parking lot.
We've brought our own and checked it with our baggage. We bring just the booster seat part (not the part that goes behind their back) and put them in those big plastic bags you can get from the airline. The only problem we've had with that is that sometimes, at some airports, we have to check them in or pick them up at oversized baggage, which is another stop to make. I agree, it's a huge waste of money to rent them.
If you want to follow rules 100 %, generally, American car seats are not approved in Europe, and European car seats are not approved in the US, and therefore not legal on the other side of the Atlantic, However, I must admit that I have used American car seats in Europe and also the opposite, and of course this is only a legal problem, it works fine, as long as it is a regular booster seat. Some models might be approved in both countries, but most are only sold in one market, and therefore the manufacturers only get one approval since testing of child seats costs money. A car seat approved for Europe has to be approved according to ECE R44/04 or ECE R44/03.
