What are the best/cheapest agencies to rent cars from in Ireland and Scotland? Automatic would be preferred, though I suppose we could handle a manual. Thanks!

I don't know who is cheapest but be advised that in Ireland anyway a second driver jacks up the price by almost 30 to 50%. My husband and I found this out the hard way. And yes, a second driver is very very handy. As for driving a stick I didn't have a problem...I was to busy concentrating on driving on the other side of the road. Traffic is light, drivers are polite.

In Ireland, I've found Irish Car Rental to be the lowest price at the times I have been looking. Their website is www.eirecar.com.

I do not know if they are the cheapest, but I have used Arnold Clark and Enterprise. The latter was really easy to book and good for dropping off at a different location.

Auto Europe is a consolidator that finds you the best rate from among the companies with which it has contracts. If you find a better deal on your own, AE promises to either match or beat it. You can book online, but it's a good idea to call their US toll-free number and ask about special deals that may not be shown on their Web site.
