Car Rentals in France

Our B&B in Normandy recommended a rental company called acarinfrance.com, which also comes up online as acarinthesun.com. Either address takes me to cartrawler.com. Their prices look good, and I've searched online and on this site and haven't found any complaints about them. Does anyone have any experience with this company? Many thanks...

Do some price comparisons by contacting Auroeurope. How many days will you need the car? Also, be aware that most rental companies have few automatics, mostly manuals, so even if you request an automatic and it is confirmed, it is possible that only a manual will be available.

We will be renting the car for 2 time periods...Aug 8-16 to drive to the Loire Valley, turning it in for a couple of days in Paris, and then re-renting for the last 3-4 days in Normandy.

No problem with manual transmission, but I don't want to park in Paris. I have done price comparisons, and these guys compare pretty favorably. Thanks!

I thought if you were going to rent for more than 17 days you could check the lease purchase program offered by Peugeot. Since you are there for less than that I would try autoeurope and gemut.com and compare rates with acarinfrance.com. I would think if your B&B in Normandy recommended Acarinfrance they would be ok to deal with. I know autoeurope and gemut are very reputable companies. Be careful when comparing rates. Some companies will quote in Euros and some in US Dollars. As a citizen of the U.S. I would prefer to be quoted in US Dollars. Gemut does this and I think autoeurope will as well. You may want to also try direct quotes from some of the Major rental companies in France and compare everything before deciding. Be sure to get an International Drivers Permit which can be purchased at you local AAA auto office. Also, I would recommend a gps.

Just a reminder: if you find a better price anywhere, autoeurope will meet it. We recently shaved $100 off a rental in Italy by calling them about a deal we found. I have used them numerous times without incident.

The other advantage of Autoeurope is that they have a 24 hour, toll-free number to call their office in Maine to get help if you need it. They're a great company.

Thank you all very much for the help. We went with gemut.com and got a great price. They are extremely helpful, and I went with them based on all the positive feedback about them on the boards. Thanks again - Rosemarie
