travelling from Nice France to Piedmonte area of Italy....can anyone suggest what town in Italy I may be able to rent a car without having to go to Genoa and then travel back to Piedmonte. We would be dropping the car off, however, in Genoa, as we would then be getting on the train to our next destination in the Cinque Terre...any suggestions also on what car rental companies to use...thank

Loretta, where are you traveling to in the Piedmonte area? How are you getting from Nice to the area? The logical choice is to pick up your car at the terminus of your Nice to Piedmonte trip, or at a convenient location near the end of the route. Go to the AutoEurope web site and search all of the locations that they list near the area where you expect to arrive. Play with the various pick up locations; sometimes one may be a lot less than the others. You can pick up a car there, and drop it off at the train station in Genoa. If you have any questions, call Auto Europe at their offices in Maine; they will be more thn happy to help! Make sure that you have your driver's license, and IDP (International Driver's Permit) that you picked up at your local AAA office. Bring along your GPS and a small fold out Michelin map of Italy. Please note that Genoa has ZTL zones (stray into one of these and you get a $100 fine each time you pass through!) Plug "ZTL" into the search space in the upper right ands do some reading.
