Check with www.sixt.com. For Mannheim pick Bismarckplatz station instead of Hauptbahnhof (train station). It's walking distance to the train station but you don't have to pay the extra 19% service charge that you have to pay for airport and rail station locations. Rentals cars in Germany are expensive though. Average for a compact is between €60 and €90 per day (4 daily rates = 1 week) but at least with Sixt you get VW's, Audis, Mercedes or BMW (A3, 1-series, Golf, A-Class for compacts).

Try gemut.com. You should find them to have the best rates and their customer service is great.

In addition to those mentioned previously, Kemwel is a good alternative. It recently offered a weekly rate for basic coverage considerably less than AutoEurope. AE will not beat or match the Kemwel rates because the two are affiliated. Shop them both even if AE has offered a better price on a price match request.

I would second gemut.com! I just booked a ford focus type car for nine days with GPS through gemut.com which then gave us a car through Auto Europe, but at a better price. Ours was $413.70...USD! We pick it up in Munich and drop it off at a different location.

Good luck!

Gemut.com quoted me a 7-day price on a compact in Germany foe 253 US dollars including tax. Your 4 day rental should be a lot less. I've used them for years and always deal with the same people...much better than going online or dealing with some phone reservationist who's been on the job for 2 months and has never been to Europe.

Andreas suggested sixt.com but i would use sixti.com (just add an i to the end). That's their lower cost version.
