Hello! We are staying in Spello for one month from mid-Sep to mid-Oct 2025. Thinking about renting a car to have at our disposal for the entire month vs planning things out so we only need the car for say, half the time. Need some direction on a few things.....1 - Where are the closest car rental companies near Spello? 2 - would it be better to rent right from FCO then drive to spello? 2 - which are the reputable/reliable/well known car rental companies in Italy? So many names I'm not familiar with I don't know if they are ok or not.

Lucky you! We spent two weeks in Spello and loved every minute we were there.
We rented a car nearby in Foligno.

Check with AutoEurope.com. A lot of folks here use them for their rentals. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything negative posted about them. Great customer service and prices.

AutoEurope will broker through various companies that will include the ones you know--Hertz, etc.
Where to rent depends on the itinerary. Are you planning to stay in Rome or just fly there and move on? You would not want to drive right after an overnight flight for example, but if you might break up the trip, then airport would work.

We have been very happy for many years with Europcar. In Umbria, we picked up in Perugia and dropped off in Terni —- if you are coming from Rome, it’s easy to take the train to Terni.
