We would like to rent a car in the Siena area for 5 days next April. We will be arriving by train from Rome. Are their recommendations for car rental companies? Previous posts suggest not renting in Siena, but to rent outside the city if driving for the first time in Italy, which applies to us.
We are staying outside Siena in the countryside.
Thanks much,
RWS
Check with AutoEurope.com. They are very reputable and can often get you a car from Hertz (or other rental agencies) cheaper than you can get directly from Hertz.
They'll have locations in Siena you can choose from. Rental cars in Tuscany outside of Siena or Florence are difficult to find, as the national rental agencies are only in the larger cities.
In October, we returned a car to Europcar in Siena. Their location was about a 10-12 euro taxi ride from the train station. From the Europcar agency it didn't seem that it would be difficult to get out of Siena. BTW, the car rental had been arranged through AutoEurope. Have a great trip.
We have used Hertz the two times we picked up cars in Siena. Their office is a short walk from the train station and fairly easy despite having to deal with cars twirling through a roundabout. And being on the outskirts of town , it's fairly easy to getaway. Of course we always coordinated the arrival time of our train with the office being open. As a previous poster noted, Auto Europe might be able to find you a better rate with Hertz. We stayed outside Siena and would drive in and park at the soccer stadium lot when visiting the city. Very convenient. GPS is a must along with the required International Driving Permit which is available from AAA.
